When Doff Portland, the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of insecticides, weedkillers and garden care products wanted to improve production they invested in a PlantRun system.
Doff is a company that manufactures 150 different product lines at its custom-built factory in Nottinghamshire, UK. They invested in a PlantRun system that monitors production across various lines, including those handling powders, pellets, cartons, and liquids.
For the lines dealing with corrosive liquids, hardware was supplied in stainless steel enclosures to ensure durability. Minimising changeover times and accurately capturing downtime reasons were among the main challenges they faced.
The system not only tracks short and long stoppages but also records the reasons for these interruptions. It also monitors production line speeds and can log reasons for any periods of slow running. Connecting the PlantRun system to the company’s ERP system allows automatic updates on run time, stoppages, product counts, and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) metrics, streamlining data flow across the business. Real-time information is displayed on large screen TVs in the production area using PlantRun Display Node hardware, keeping staff informed and motivated.
The system also includes optical sensors, which provide a cost-effective and straightforward way to capture product counts and monitor run/stop statuses from each production line.
